ASK YOUR RELATIVE QUESTIONS

Hey Auntie, how likely is it to get pregnant if u put the condom on wrong and flipped it to the right side?

Hey there! Thanks for writing in!

Believe it or not, this is pretty common and can easily happen when people don’t have a backup condom.

The chances of pregnancy are pretty low if there is not pre-ejaculate in the condom before flipping it to the right side. There would be an increased chance of pregnancy if the girl was ovulating.

There are a couple options now. You can check into:

  • Over the counter emergency contraception (or morning-after pill), up to 5 days later. The earlier it’s taken, the better it works.
    • Check with your tribal clinic or health insurance to see if it’s covered
    • It can sometimes be cheaper to order online, just make sure it comes in before 5 days.
  • See your healthcare provider, just to be sure and you can get tested for STIs while you’re there, which is always a good idea if you’re sexually active.

Going forward, think about carrying an extra condom, or ordering emergency contraception ahead of time… just to take the stress off.

Kuddos to you for writing in!
