All About Cardio Training

What is Cardio Training?

Cardio training is to improve heart fitness. Good heart fitness means you can pump blood very well to your body. Cardio training involves exercising at a constant moderate level of intensity for a certain amount of time. That can include running, jogging, biking, swimming, and jump roping.

Why Cardio Training is Important

With regular cardio training, you can get the following benefits:

  • Lower risk for heart disease and failure
  • Lower risk for diabetes
  • Lower risk for cancer
  • Lower total body fat (if your nutrition is also healthy)
  • ...and much more!

Getting just a small amount of cardio into your weekly fitness routine can greatly improve your health and mental well-being. 

What You Should Know

Just like strength training, you need to have a workout plan to succeed in your cardio training. When you are trying to design a good cardio training plan, think about the following:

  • Mode: what activity you want to do (running, swimming, biking, etc.)
  • Frequency: how many times you train per week; aim for 2-5 times per week
  • Duration: how long you train; aim for 15-60 minutes
  • Intensity: how hard you train; aim for a challenging pace, but not too hard where you feel dizzy
