Protecting Yourself During Anal Sex

Anal sex involves inserting one partner’۪s penis into another partner’۪s anus. It is common in both straight and same-sex couples. Like vaginal and oral sex, anal sex can spread sexually transmitted diseases.

That’s why it’s important to use condoms each and every time you have anal sex from start to finish.

The great thing is that condoms come in lots of colors, textures, and sizes. The most important thing to remember when selecting a condom is that they are made of latex or polyurethane. Both of these are effective at preventing STDs, because they:

  • reduce the amount of skin-to-skin contact between partners and
  • form a barrier that keeps one partner’s fluids from getting on or into the other.

Additionally using condoms can help prevent pregnancy, which can occur if semen leeks into the vagina during anal sex.

Also while male condoms are more popular, female condoms are an excellent option for both men and women. Just make sure not to use scented or flavored condoms during anal sex because they might cause irritation.

  • Use a water-based lubricant, along with a condom. It makes sex much more pleasurable.
  • Go slow. This is especially important if it is your first time experimenting with anal sex. To help the process, try inserting a lubricated finger into the anus (use a glove or condom). If this feels good, try inserting your partner’s penis. Make sure the anal muscles have time to relax before thrusting. And stop if you are uncomfortable.
  • Try not to have vaginal sex after anal sex using the same condom, because this can cause an infection. Always use a fresh condom before having vaginal sex.
