ASK AUNTIE QUESTIONS

Should I make a New Year’s resolution?

Should I make a New Year’s resolution? Every year I make one, then get pissed and feel bad about myself for never following through. I think it’s bad for me.

Well, you’re kinda right. Making resolutions around more money, your career, or controlling other people will lead most people into feeling not so good about themselves or their lives.

HOWEVER, making New Year’s Resolution around uplifting yourself and those around you, you’re more likely to have a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Some examples of these resolutions are: ‘Trying to be more grateful for the things and people you have in your life’, ‘Trying to spend more time with your family’, Trying to teach your younger cousins some of your tribes traditions’.

Put these types of goals together along with things like working on getting better grades, or applying to colleges, or trade schools and you’ve got a killer combination for 2019!

So Here’s how to Make it Happen:

Develop a plan of action. Write a step-by-step plan for achieving your smaller steps, and ultimately your main goal.

Identify the obstacles. Sometimes, obstacles get in the way. They challenge you to come up with strategies to overcome them. So think ahead.

Focus on the rewards. It’s always a good idea to write down all the benefits you hope to gain.

Visualize success. You can create an image of the things that you want to achieve and use them for inspiration.

Be flexible. Have multiple options in mind to achieve your goals.

Get support. From those like friends, elders, spiritual leaders, and family.

Best of luck to you in 2019!

Auntie Manda
