I am a girl interested in dating girls. Where should I meet people to date?

I am a 16 year old girl, and I am interested in dating girls. My problem is that I don't know where to meet people to date. I don't even know anyone else who's gay. What should I do?

PNC, this is a tough one. One issue is that you - like a lot of other people - are not out at your school. From an Auntie’s eye view it’s super likely that there are other girls at your school and in your community who are afraid to come out. Just like you. So what’s a cool queer girl gotta do to meet honeys?!?!

One question PNC - does your school have a Gay Straight Alliance (GSA)? A GSA might be the ticket to creating a safe social space for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgendered, and queer (LGBTQ) kids, so they might feel more comfortable expressing themselves. And PNC it might help you meet a hot date. Bonus. So what’s a GSA you might ask?

Basically a GSA is a student-run club at a school that brings together LGBTQ and straight students (called “allies”) to hang out and support one another. Some GSAs are even chock full of young activists fighting to change some hearts, minds, and policies at their schools and in their communities. For more info on creating a GSA check out the GSA Network: GSAnetwork.org

And PNC, it goes without saying that if your school already has one of these clubs -duh- join it… and don’t worry. Joining a GSA won’t out you. Allies who are supportive of their LGBTQ classmates often join GSAs as well.

Another option for meeting ladies, PNC, is going online, but I say this with caution. Now I know you are probably super savvy, but there are some serious creeps on the internet. So if you are going to chat with someone and meet them in person, remember the following advice – meet in a public place, let people know where you’re going, and go with a friend. They can even sit at another table if you are meeting in like a coffee shop… your date will never know.

Remember PNC, you are like a billion light years ahead of most people in terms of knowing yourself. Things may seem a bit tough right now, but it sounds like you are being super-proactive, and that’s an attractive quality. Hopefully someone will take notice soon!

Love,
Auntie
