ASK YOUR RELATIVE QUESTIONS

Dear Auntie, my Auntie was just diagnosed with cervical cancer and I want to get involved with spreading awareness. She mentioned that January is cervical cancer awareness month. What can I do?

What an awesome niece you are! I’ve got some great things that you can do…

  • Wear turquoise on Turquoise Tuesday, January 19th and share on social media using #TurquoiseTuesday to show your support for cervical cancer awareness in Indian Country
  • Get Screened
    • Talk to your healthcare provider about cervical cancer screening and the HPV vaccine, which is recommended for youth ages 11 or 12, but can be given up until age 25. That will protect you from cervical, vaginal and vulvar cancers.
  • And if you’re in Oregon, WA, or ID you can apply for up to $5,000 of funding
    • For cancer control activities like creating content to support cancer screening messaging such as Radio PSA’s, community videos, and newspaper ads, social media etc. Check out: npaihb.org/cancerproject under the tab “Local Cancer Implementation Funds” for more info.

Thanks for writing in. I’m sending good thoughts and prayers to you and your Auntie.

Take care,

Auntie Manda
