ASK YOUR RELATIVE QUESTIONS

I have an English final coming up and for it we have to write a speech about social justice issues today. I want to do something on native Americans but have no idea where to start. Any tips??

Hey Sydney! This is something I would like to read. Send it over when you’re done.

With any good writing, it’s good to have a thesis, or a main topic. You’ll have to do a little searching to narrow down this very broad topic, as there is a very long list of social injustices inflicted upon American Indian and Alaska Native peoples.

Topic Ideas:

Do some research by jumping on the internet and see what speaks to you. Your readers will be able to tell if it is something you’re interested/ passionate about, or whether you’re faking it. A good place to start is to check out Native resources like We R Native, I Know Mine, NCAI, Reclaiming Native Truth, and History Through a Native Lens for starters.

All My Relations’ Podcast is a good one to listen to too. It’s done by two Native ladies from the Tulalip/ Swinomish and Cherokee Nation tribes, or ‘NativeNextGen’.

Hope this helps as a starting point for you. Best of luck!

Take care,
