ASK YOUR RELATIVE QUESTIONS

I was sexually touched by my uncle…and I tell him to stop he won’t listen.

I was sexually touched by my uncle and I don’t know what to do about it. Can you help me with that he keeps trying to touch me! and I tell him to stop he won’t listen.

First off, my heart hurts that you are having to experience this. Know that you are not alone. There are some vital things you need to do now that willaffect your well-being now and possibly the rest of your life.

Thank you so much for having the courage to speak up and reach out. If someone is touching you or harming you in any way, it’s never O.K. and it’s neveryour fault.

I know it’s going to be a hard conversation to start, but you really do need to choose an adult you trust to talk to about this… maybe a parent, a doctor,or a counselor at school.

Their first priority will be to come up with a plan to help keep you safe. That might mean keeping your uncle away from you at family gatherings, or reportinghim to authorities. If it’s happened to you, it’s very possible that it’s happened to others.

If you have a friend you trust, you could ask them to come with you. Having someone there to support you can make a big difference. If the adult you talkto isn’t able to help for some reason, try again with another adult. Remember there is always help.

If you don’t feel comfortable talking to someone in person, you can call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) or www.rainn.org. If at any time you’re in an unsafe or potentially abusive situation, call 911 or your local policeimmediately.

I’m sending you a deep heartfelt hug and will say a prayer for you.
