What should I do about summer parties?

Dear Auntie, it seems like there’s a party every other day during the summer. What should I do?

It can definitely seem like all that’s going on in the summers are parties, but there are a couple things to keep in mind:

  • There are a lot of other scenes happening at the same time too
  • Most times social media is pretty one-sided, meaning that it can make things seem over exaggerated
  • You get to decide what scene you want to be a part of

One of the best and worst things about being young is experimenting. It’s a time to take risks, get outside your comfort zone, and try new things. Unfortunately some young people take risks that are not healthy and don’t help them grow to be the best versions of themselves. However, the great thing is that you get to decide what kind of experiences you want to have.

Other things to do:

Keeping in mind that you control what you do, or don’t do, it can be a good idea to have something to do during the summer like a summer job, volunteer work, internships, or apprenticeships. If you’ve got time during the summer you might as well be making some money, or doing something productive. You can check out a previous Auntie question for some help.

Lastly, it’s always good to be informed so that you can make the best decisions for yourself and your future. You can check out:

Thanks for writing in and best of luck making good choices this summer.

Take care,
