Bannock Bread

Eating healthy means getting the right balance of nutrients your body needs to perform every day. A healthy eating plan includes eating a well-balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy foods, lean meats, fish, eggs, nuts, and whole grains. So what about frybread? Well, sometimes you need to have frybread and having those cravings is perfectly fine! But you also want to keep up with your healthy eating habits. A good way to have a healthy balance of both worlds, try substituting food choices and ingredients that are lower in fat, calories, carbs, and sugar. Bannock bread is a great alternative! Here’s how to make it:

Mix together the following in a large bowl:
-2.5 cups whole wheat flour
-1.5 tablespoons baking powder
-pinch of salt
-1 tablespoon honey (optional)

Beat together and add to dry ingredients:
-3/4 cup milk (if it’s too dry, add a little more)
-1/8 cup olive oil
-1 egg

Knead well and with a little bit of grease, coat the skillet. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. That’s it!
