Every Friday this month, we're going to share some of our favorite Indigenous animated characters! In honor of May being AAPI Heritage month, today's spotlight is: Lilo, Nani, and David from Lilo and Stitch

Lilo Pelekai is a Hawaiian youth living on the island of Kauai with her older sister Nani. Her passions include Hula, photography, horror and sci-fi movies, and Elvis Presley. Even though at times she can be reckless and messy, she is adventurous, brave, and clever ❤️

Nani Pelekai is Lilo's older sister, doubling as her guardian since she became of age when their parents unexpectedly passed in a car accident. She garners an impressive collection of surf medals and awards. Although she is a terrible cook, she's really great at math and chemistry and is kind and caring. She is also protective of her family ❤️

David Kawena is Nani's boyfriend and a great surfer too. Albeit clumsy at times, he is good natured and patient with Nani and Lilo. He looks after Lilo like his own and cares deeply for Nani as shown through his romantic gestures and unyielding support. Everyone deserves a friend and partner like David ❤️
