What is the difference between regular depression and high functioning depression?

Hello,

This is a really good question. There are many types of depression that can impact one’s life. Such as, Major Depression, Persistent Depressive Disorder, Situational Depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and others. There is not really a “regular” form of depression, because depression is a clinical disorder that should be diagnosed by a clinical professional.

High-functioning depression, or dysthymia. may be harder to detect than major depressive disorder (MDD) because the people living with it are often high achievers who make you think everything is all right all the time.

If you like you or someone you know might be suffering from any form of depression, please seek support from a counselor or mental health provider. I shared answered this question last year, you can find that response here.

I hope this helps,
